Leveson-Based Trade Assessment Scale

The 5-star rating scale was created as a promotion tool the Mobil Oil Corporation (now ExxonMobil) for their Mobil Travel Guide to rate hotels and restaurants along popular highway routes. LBTAS was created to give constructive feedback to aerospace software engineers about the quality of their code. Both of these systems might be considered "open-source" but only one was designed to build collective intelligence. The other is a gimmick allowing producers to game consumers across the internet's major retail platforms.
