Leveson-Based Trade Assessment Scale
The 5-star rating scale was commercialized as a promotion tool the Mobil Oil Corporation (now ExxonMobil) for their Mobil Travel Guide to rate hotels and restaurants along popular highway routes. LBTAS was adopted from aerospace engineers assessing the quality of software systems. Both 5-star and LBTAS might be considered "open-source" but only one was designed to cultivate an intelligent conversation.
