The Network State by Balaji Srinivasan
MISSION
The TNS Observations Backend Channel serves as a dedicated research environment for examining the Network State concept developed by Balaji Srinivasan. Through collaborative analysis, we explore how decentralized digital communities might evolve into network states and evaluate implications for global cooperation, governance structures, and digital sovereignty. This channel connects network theory principles with emerging models of social organization to advance NTARI's mission of developing systems for online global cooperatives.
OBJECTIVES
Document and analyze the Network State concept's theoretical foundations and real-world implementations
Evaluate potential applications of network theory to emerging digital community governance models
Explore relationships between distributed protocols and nascent network-based jurisdictions
Compare Network State frameworks with other cooperative digital governance systems
Develop research outputs that contribute to public understanding of network-based sovereignty
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain objective, evidence-based documentation of Network State developments
Produce multimedia research outputs analyzing network theory applications in digital community formation
Track real-world implementations of Network State concepts and related initiatives
Facilitate peer review of research through structured evaluation processes
Identify potential collaborative opportunities between NTARI programs and Network State initiatives
Submit monthly research records to the NTARI Secretary as required by the Bylaws
Develop educational resources that make Network State concepts accessible to diverse audiences
Ensure all discussions maintain scientific objectivity and adhere to domain-specific focus
GOVERNANCE
This channel operates under the Network Society Program's three-tiered volunteer framework. Lead Research Assistants oversee channel discussions and guide General Research Volunteers in creating multimedia reports for Node.Nexus. Volunteer Information Managers ensure research adheres to domain focus and meets objective criteria. All activities must align with NTARI's Bylaws, particularly Article III regarding documentation requirements and quarterly mission standards, while adhering to the Non-Discrimination Policy in Amendment 1.
EVALUATION METRICS
Quality and objectivity of Network State research outputs
Depth of analysis connecting network theory to Network State implementations
Diversity of perspectives represented in research discussions
Practical applications identified for cooperative digital governance
Timeliness of monthly research records submitted to the Secretary
Public engagement with published multimedia research outputs
Alignment with NTARI's quarterly mission standards
This objective statement serves as the guiding framework for all volunteers participating in the TNS Observations Backend Channel and may be amended through processes outlined in the Network Society Program Charter.
