Collective Intelligence in Individuals

In a few days we'll post about chapter 7 of the Collective Intelligence Handbook by MIT's Center of Collective Intelligence. It reviews Cognition and Collective Intelligence. As a preview, check out this video from Kurzgesagt about how our senses "build" the reality we live in.

What is most interesting to me is the latency between sensation, reception and cognition. The reason is that our current web of sensors (sattelites, deep ocean sensors, weather stations) all have latency, and similarly we are happy with that latent result and make predictions with them as well.

The brain deals with information within our immediate vacinity. A sensor network similarly detects data at a much wider range. Much of that data will not be immediately relevant, but having access to the data for computational purposes when it is called for is crucial to a community's collective intelligence.
